Master O and new g/f visited us last week end bearing, as Christmas Gifts, 2 butternut squash and a coconut!

We had three meals off the squashes last week, and today I thought I'd better do something with the coconut, as Mrs O was starting to rumble about it hanging around the kitchen.

So, I took it outside, rooted around in Ossie's Box of Ancient Agricultural Implements and selected a hand drill, a chisel, and a hammer.

First up, shook the coconut, no milk, obviously dessicated. Managed to drill a hole through an eye, no liquid, fair enough.
Next, sat on the garden bench, coconut between thights, and attacked it from various angles with the chisel 'n hammer. After a couple of minutes of getting nowhere - not even a dent - I was getting a bit worried about the H&S angle as the coconut wasn't the only nut under threat ....

So, had the bright idea of wedging the coconut in an ornamental rectangular garden trough - just the right size to secure it firmly!
Took up the hammer and chisel and ...... you can guess the rest.

Sigh - Another Day in the life of the Hapless Ostrich .....

Well, we now have plenty of pottery shards to line our veggie tubs next year.

PS: For Sale: One coconut. Undamaged. Any offer accepted.
