A maths question...

because I'm being daft.... a group of us are going camping at the end August and I called the site to find out if we were allowed to put two tents on the pitches. The lady said that the pitches weren't very big, 21ft square which I have worked that out to be 6.3m square - is that right? (I'm a metric girl )

If yes, then it probably will be quite a bit of a squeeze with two tents but it would save a lot of money if my brother and his family and I can share a pitch as each one is £111 for the three nights.

but just wondering if I got my maths right?

I'm not a metric user so I Googled it and two sites came up with a conversion of 21 sq ft equalling just under 2m sq.

Maybe I misunderstood the lady because 2m square definitely wouldn't be big enough

21ft square isn't the same as 21 square feet. It is a square with sides 21ft long. In metric it is a square with sides 6.4m long = 41 sq m.

ETA When we used to go to France the pitches were roughly that size. There was room for our 4 pers dome and 2 pers dome tents to fit in an 'L' shape along the sides with all the tables kitchen etc. on the rest.

Ah that's a bit bigger then, I suppose it depends on how big both tents are though as to whether they'd both fit on the one pitch. Are you alone in a tent? If so would you be able to fit into your brother's family tent?

I need to find out from my brother how big their tent is; mine is a small'ish 2 man dome tent And Jo, yes, I probably could stay in their tent, I gather it is big enough, but they also have 2 kids with them and I know a tent won't give much privacy or stop noise etc but not sure I fancy cramming up if I can get away with my own tent

As it is, I'm a bit worried about the level of snoring coming from the various tents . When we met up for lunch the other day and got the ball rolling with this camping trip, we jokingly were saying about the snorers having to sleep one side of the pitches and the non-snorers the other side... I recall there were only 2 of us non-snorers

Does the camp site have a web site. This should give details about the size of the pitches. There may be local bye laws about the size so that there is a minimum gap between tents.
How are you cooking? There have been several incidents, including one with Debih, where carbon monoxide fumes have affected people.

As Frank has said, it isn't the same as 21 square feet, which would definately not be enough.

Check also if there is alternative parking for car(s). Most campsites here I've been to expect you to park your own car on your own site.

Actually that is a very good point Weka - the website does mention that every site has hard standing for cars and I would have thought that would be part of the footage given. Which means that 2 tents and probably 2 cars just won't work....

oh well; I'm not having a holiday this year so may as well bit the bullet book my pitch
