Jan, have you looked at Lisbon - Athens - Larnaca? It is about 1200 miles shorter than Lisbon - Heathrow - Larnaca, thus saving hours of flight time, and there are loads of daily flights from Athens to Larnaca.

However, it's a two part search of Lisbon to Athens then Athens to Larnaca as the reasults do not come up with a simple Lisbon - Larnaca search. Skyscanner says that the airlines are Wizz or Aegean.

One-way examples outbound in May 2026:
Lis - Ath dep 23:50 - arr 05:45. Direct.
Ath - Lca dep 07:45 - arr 09:20. Direct.

You get to sleep and a chance for breakfast during the switch in Athens.

Yes, I-ve looked that one, as well as others.

We would have to get to Lisbon the day before, then fly out that morning, then change at Athens, then onto Larnaca, all in one day.

No thanks/we-re getting too old for that.

And I really don-t fancy wizzair.

Why would you have to go to Lisbon the day before? It can't be more than a few hours from Ourique and the plane does not leave till nearly midnight. Even with something like a 2 hour check-in you would not have to leave till the evening. And the flights I gave are not with Wizzair, they are with Aegean. The total journey time is hours shorter and for about 1/3 of the price, but it is entirely up to you.

Because we only have three trains a day from here to Lisbon.

And no a hope of driving up, it-s an easy place to get to, but the drivers

We had a spare pot on the patio, and decided to buy an alpine strawberry plant.

Since then, Mrs O has been in a constant tussle with the local blackbirds as to who gets the crop.

As far as I understand it, the blackbirds are currently winning 4-3 .........
