The UK has co-operated with France previously. I think the results have been mixed, sometimes the boats are punctured and sometimes they are waved off towards the UK by the French police.
Why would this new scheme be any different? One in and one out is the way it works, one commentator opined when discussing the scheme, they can be got out of expensive hotels and given rented accommodation thus reducing the cost to the taxpayer. But isn't that what taxpayers have been complaining about, illegal immigrants being prioritised over the indiginous population when allocating housing as their needs are greater. Apparently if someone has 'family' in the UK we are supposed to accept an illegal immigrant from France to the UK and we can then send one illegal immigrant already here back to France. Is this going to reduce the numbers? No it is not - those with family already here and once accepted will send for the rest of their family, uncle Tom Cobley and all, most likely who are not working and relying on state benefits.
I don't want to appear too negative but all this seems to be adding up to more costs. Oh - and the Labour government are committed to reducing state benefits.
