Clean energy.

Postby Workingman » 08 Apr 2025, 14:39

A new report tells us that clean energy made up 40.9% of global energy needs in 2024, an all-time high, mostly from a rise in solar, wind, nuclear and hydro.

However, there was a 4% increse in total demand and that came mostly from fossil fuels - coal and gas (34% and 22%) - another all-time high. And get this, increases in AI, air conditioning, electric vehicles and heat pumps are the things driving up electricity demand. Green and net-zero they certainly are not.

We need to be reducing and then removing greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere not increasing them. A rethink is needed.

It's certainly a worry!

We charge our hybrid car up from the solar panels on sunny days like today, but obviously on dull days it does need plugging into the grid :?

When you're charging your car from the grid, Kaz, is it more cost-efficient than running a petrol car, do you think?

Most electric vehicles when running on pure electric get around 120mpge (equivalent), on cost. Which is way cheaper than fuel.

Even running EV on coal power they emit less CO2 than fuelled vehicles. It is a trade off but the more EV running on fossil fuels, the higher the impact for every power station moved to clean energy. There is no lag it is an instant switch from dirty (er) and clean.

Where is the energy going to come from for the new Theme Park which ios going to be built near Bedford?
It will require several wind turbines and solar panel farms to keepit operating.
