left home without any money/phone----but took all his medication

That sounds a bit odd.

Deliberate then, either not wanting to disappear without being traced through spending habits or phone, but wanting the meds so as to stay well, or (sorry to say) wanting to take the meds somewhere private to harm themselves.................
