Even though I've lived here 10 years I'm still amazed at how quickly funerals are held after a death but that's just how it is.

Lidia's (Jacob's girlfriend) grandfather passed away at 3.30 this morning.

I only met him once at a party but he was a nice old chap.

His funeral is tonight at 6pm.

As is the custom the service will be in held in our local church San Sebastian then the coffin will be carried by the mourners on the 1km walk to the cemetery.

I don't know whether I like the idea of burials within 24 hours, but I thought it was the normal procedure in a certain religion.

Or is it just a Spanish custom?

i bet there isent the huge expense involved that we pay in the uk
which to be honest in some cases a racket
i would have likes my B to have been like that
not because of the expense but because of the simplisity

That's what I was going to say when I read Ally's post.
The time between losing a loved one and their funeral here seems to be getting longer and it's horrible waiting for that day to come isn't it...so yes, maybe they have it right there.
My thoughts are with Lidia and her family xx

same here as well .lack of mortuary facilities & hot climate are contributing factors i believe

moving on from that -

February will see the opening of the only Crematorium on the island,charges will be --
220 euros for full cremation,-that may sound a bit odd -but---READING ON MAY BE UPSETTING FOR SOME PEOPLE










due to lack of space here ,graves are opened up after 3/5 years and if only bones remain they are given to the family

cremation of said bones in the future will be 110 euros
