I swear if politicians wanted to be useful they would ban the commercial use of the c word before dec1.

We used to have Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, now we have Easter, School Hols, Hallowe'en and Christmas.

It's a money thing -

It's two or three months now since John came home from work and told me that their company Christmas night out was booked
Can't think which hotel it's at this year but it's over your way again Ossie, because John's boss lives at Wishaw and is a bit tight so that way he doesn't have to stay over or pay too much for a taxi home, all I can remember is that there's a local R&B band providing the entertainment.

Sounds like it's the Ramada Hotel on Penns Lane, Wylde Green, Jo - the firm I used to work for used to go there for Xmas do's as well.

You can always drop in and have a mince pie with Mrs O and myself if you get that bored !!

Is that what used to be the Penn's Hall Ossie? I think that could be it, we've been there a few times in the past although in more recent times they've alternated between Moor Hall, New Hall and Moxhull Hall.

It should be said, btw, just how much I hate this annual night out. Nice to see people you only see once a year but a. you can't catch up with them because the music is always too loud to hold a conversation and b. you have get dressed up.

Earlier in the year we all went out when people from the US office were visiting. We went to a country pub where a room had been hired and we had a lovely meal and then played skittles. It was a fantastic night out, with lots of chatting and laughing!!

I couldn't agree more, Jo, and it's your point (a) which does it for me. The last two office Christmas do's I attended were excruciatingly noisy, not only from the DJ / tribute act and the sound system but also from the 100-odd people jammed into the function room, shouting and merry-making. The last one I attended actually left me with a headache and ringing in my ears for several hours afterwards - not kidding. After that one, I politely declined to attend any further ones.

I've never been a huge socialite, but those evenings were simply beyond the pale .....
