Since we have moved in here almost 5 years ago, I've had a feeling that one day, we may flood. I'm wondering if this week may be the week for it. We have a deep depression coming in from the Tasman sea that has just hit, and hot on the heels of that (will be ex) tropical cyclone cook, currently predicted to make landfall not far from here. The rain that has just hit is from the depression and I can barely see the other side of the street, and the little creek behind me is already quite high, and it's only just begun. Heavy rain warnings are from now until Saturday. There has been many civil defense warnings too. Looks like the (ex) cyclone is going to go the length of the country and the irony is the only place to stay dry will be the rainforest in fiordland. lol. There's already been a few jokes around that it's not the first time a Cook and explored our coast line.

I'm sure we will be fine, but i might just quietly start shifting things like the photo albums upstairs.... you never know...

It's been so wet here the last couple of weeks. A few friends have flood damage to their property's, nothing major though. We have had to conserve water as the water treatment plant was flooded and the silt in the dam was slowing it down, there's been flooding in nearby suburbs, roads washed out, land slides, Kaikoura is again cut off, last week the whole town of Edgecombe tried to float away and half the town is still under water, and possibly will all go under again with this rain if the repair work on the stopbanks fails. They are calling the last even a 1 in a 500 year flood.

This is the 3rd week in a row of extreme heavy rain. I've never known so much rain, after such a rubbish summer. What is up with the weather? it's been so odd for the last 6-9 months.

Hope you stay dry, and safe! Ironic aboiut the water plant and conserving water , isn't it? When Gloucester flooded badly, ten years ago this year, a water treatment plant was damaged and the people here were having to collect clean water from standpipes "Water water everywhere, and not a drop to drink! "

Odd weather all over - but if you'd like to send the wet stuff over here, we'd be more than happy. Our barragems are about 20% of what they should be which is quite scary.

Just been to stock up on the essentials, beer, wine, ice-cream, chips....

Normally we go away to Raglan at easter, not this year, we will wait till sunday and see what the roads are like. There's a mountainous range we have to drive through to get there, so we'll wait and see if there are any slips and if the road is ok before we go.

I'm sure we will be fine. the last big cyclone missed the country all together, this one is a lot smaller, but it's predicted to go down the length of the country. They are likening it already to some historic big storms we have had and saying this will be the biggest since the 60's.

We'll see...... (yeah right comes to mind.)

Really hope you're not affected Weka, but yes...photo albums and anything irreplaceable needs putting up high just in case.

I agree Weka, better safe than sorry - make sure you also move food upstairs and find an area for the animals if needed.... I was emailing with someone the other day when they were affected by the snow storms in NY and she (like many others) couldn't take the dogs out for a walk so the poor animals had to do their business inside. So just being realistic = be prepared for everyone for all eventualities

And it's passed. We missed the fun by about 20kms I estimate. It was almost a case of "what storm?" here, but it really did have a sense of foreboding, a real feeling of the calm before the storm. Other areas however were no so lucky. There are landslides all over the place, as too with flooding and a huge number of trees down all over the show. We have delayed going away for a couple of days just to give the place a chance to dry out.

2 (ex) cyclones in 2 weeks, I wonder what next week holds?
