I don’t really believe in such things but….. I think I’ve told this story before. When my mother was in the nursing home up the road, there were two seagulls always in the garden she could see from her window. She always said she was going to come back as a seagull. When she died, she was laid out in her room in the nursing home, the curtains were drawn and we were there saying our goodbyes before she was placed in her coffin for removal to the church. Next thing, there was a ferocious banging on the window, we looked out and there was a seagull outside on the window ledge banging its beak on the glass, we were all quite shocked. The following year for the first and only time, we had a seagull nest on our chimney with one baby born. The year after that, a seagull (probably the baby, they do return) used to bang on our back door. We called it Mother  but eventually Edward had to chase it away before it did actual damage to the door.

Also, when we first returned from London, we lived where we live now, it was then a flat over a shop and we shared with Edward’s brother and sister. One night I was in bed, everyone else was out. I heard very definite footsteps on the stairs, I sat up and called out but there was no reply. Edward always says that when he was a small boy visiting his great aunt who owned the shop and lived upstairs, he would never go upstairs because he felt scared for no real reason that he knew of. Thankfully we both live here now and nothing scary happens!
